A new exhibition will be opening this weekend at Bromwich Hall - West Bromwich Manor House.
More than 200 people of African origin or descent lived in England during the Tudor period. Details of their lives appear in diverse archival sources. However, there is only one known image of a Black Tudor: John Blanke, a royal trumpeter.
Selly Manor Museum in Birmingham commissioned 4 young West Midlands Artists to explore the stories of 4 Black Tudors and create pieces of artwork in response to those stories.
Black Tudors is the resulting exhibitions with 5 pieces of art including, painting, drawing, photography and poetry as well as information describing the stories of the lives of these ordinary and extraordinary Tudor folk.
The exhibition will be available to view as part of Bromwich Hall's normal opening hours including this weekend 20th and 21st 11am-3pm, and the weekend of 17th and 18th August 11am-3pm, also every Tuesday 11am-3pm. entrance is FREE.
